Frequently Asked Questions

Relocating to another country can be confusing so we have put together some typical questions our clients have asked over the years. This is not a comprehensive information sheet as we will work with you directly to address any questions or concerns you may have.

What is the Education system like?

Starting a new life in Spain with your family is a fantastic opportunity. The chance for your children to grow up in a safer and far less pressured environment is of the utmost importance and children have an amazing ability to learn the Spanish language very quickly. Over the years we have witnessed many of our clients reservations about educating their children and putting them into a state school. Almost without exception within six months the children are speaking fluent Spanish, and very often doing the translation for their parents. The wonderful climate ensures that children spend much more time outdoors making the most of the excellent facilities available.

There is no question that attending a local state school helps children integrate into the local community and learn the language. In our experience this is the best approach if you plan to stay in Spain indefinitely. Upon settling in Spain some of our clients opt to send their children to a private international school of which there are many to choose from. The international schools generally follow the UK curriculum and offer GCSEs and A and A/S levels. Many now also offer the internationally recognised Baccalaureate as an alternative to A level. There are special state schools in Andalucia for pupils with special education needs.

What is the health service like?

Spanish state healthcare is among the best in Europe, by far outperforming the NHS in the UK. Health care costs per head in Spain are among the lowest in the EU. In addition to this private healthcare through Spanish and international insurance companies is excellent and not nearly as expensive as the UK private sector.

There are excellent doctors with highly trained medical staff. Major hospitals are equipped with the latest high-tech equipment. Public and private healthcare operate alongside each other and complement each other superbly.
